Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

Dear Pastors and WMU Directors,

Recently I was privileged to be at the training center for our IMB missionaries. A part of the programming is a dramatization of the life of Lottie Moon.

Lottie was a missionary serving in China in the late 1800s; eventually giving her life for the Chinese. For Lottie there was no other choice, she loved the Chinese and wanted to give them Jesus. It does not take long when talking with our newly appointed missionaries to learn that they too love the people group to which they have been called. They go with great anticipation leaving behind family, comfort, friends and the fellowship of believers. They leave willing to give their lives for the people they are called to serve. Their motivation is not adding to their list of accomplishments but instead adding to the list of believers.

We are not all called to go but we all can be a part of what missionaries are doing as they tell the story of Jesus by praying for them daily and giving generously to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Together we can celebrate all that God is doing throughout the nations so that one day “every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”As a former missionary, I know well the importance of this kind of support. Every person who received Christ and every church that was planted throughout our time of service is there because Southern Baptists were willing to pray and to give.

Together, we can take the message of Christ to the uttermost parts of the earth. The enclosed material is to assist you in involving your fellow church members in this special time of praying and giving. May I encourage you to pray and seek God’s leading as you set goals for this missions offering? What will your church give so that all can hear the story of Jesus? Serving Christ,
