Friday:  Session A     3:00-4:30 PM

 

  1. Assessing the Needs of Families in Your Congregation & Community-Lori Ferguson- This workshop will take an evaluative look at your church, offering information, tools and resources to empower and equip your church for ministry to families.
  2. Disaster Preparedness for Church and Families-Al Caho- Disasters come without warning.  Learn how you and your church can prepare how to minister to the needs of those around you in time of crisis.
  3. Bible Teaching, Bible Study, or Bible Discussion-what's the difference?-Randy Millwood - Classes, seminars, small groups-teachers, leaders, facilitators-every setting is different.  Beyond where a group meets is the question, "for what purpose do they meet?" The issue is not whether it is right or wrong to teach, study, or discuss but rather, given the particpants, the setting and the goal, which is the best choice for this group now. (AND THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT)  In this seminar we will explore those differences and dicuss the best settings for each! 
  4. WMU-Party With a Purpose-Darline Ballou-You are invited to a party!  Join in the fun and learn how to create terrific parties with the purpose of sharing the Good news of Chirst.
  5. Prayer Ministry in Your Church-Maxine Bumgarner-Praise, Repent, Ask (learn and apply prayer principles for yourself) Yield (for yourself, your church and your world) Expect, Rejoice.
  6. Mission: "An experience that will bring a Healthy Environment"-James Dixon Jr.
  7. The Multi-Site Revolution: Evaluating the Options-David Jackson-You want your church to grow and you are passionate about extending the Kingdom of God to reach lost people with the Gospel, but how?  This conference will overview multiple options churches should consider, primarily beyond the four walls of their church building.  It will also assist you in determining which option is best for your church.
  8. Branding Your Church on a Budget-Phil Graves- That's right partner, we're talking about branding!  You want people to know and recognize everything they get from your church.  We'll talk about how to do it without breaking the bank.  So get along little doggies and come on down.
  9. Issues of Korean Church Plant-Robert Kim-As the environments in which we have planted Korean churches in the past are changing, so we have to explore what changes we have experienced.  We will sit down together to make a list of components both which have helped the Korean church plant before and which will help it in the future.  We will go over the article in the BaptistLife that Robert Kim wrote on Korean church plant then and now.
  10. Senior Adult Ministry-Randy Tompkins-Senior Adult Ministry and Bible Study go hand in hand.  But don't make the mistake of thinking of Senior Adult Ministry of the 70s & 80's.  Remember today's Senior Adult are different.  We will explore those differences and suggest ways to minister to them in today's church life.

Friday:  Session B     7:30-9:00 PM

 

  1. Building Faith at Home: Why Faith at Home Must Be Your Church's #1 Priority-Lori Ferguson- This family workshop incorporates, encourages, and equips churches for a paradigm shift in ministry philosophy.  The church becomes the equipping center, as the home becomes the ministry base.
  2. Ministry to Internationals-Betty Howell-God is bringing people from all around the world to the Mid Atlantic region.  Your church's community is becoming a global mission field!  Learn how to connect with the internationals around you and develop life-changing ministries to reach them for Christ.
  3. Leaders? Servant? Both? How?-Randy Millwood- Servant-Leadership appeared in secular literature in the early 1970's. Coined by Robert Greenleaf, this secular model challenged the leader to see him/herself as a steward of the organization.  Other leadership coaches, including Stephen Covey, Max De Pree, and Peter Senge have all contributed to the field of thought.  BUT, they were not the first.  The first (and clearest) example of servant-leadership comes from Jesus, who is the Christ.  In this seminar we will look at what it is to be a servant-leader, like Jesus.  What are the implications of this decision for your church, for your work setting, or for your family.
  4. The Battle is NOT yours, It's the Lord's-Melody Knox-There are so many battles that women face on a daily basis.  This conference will share what some of these battles are and offer suggestions on how to find victory to overcome them.
  5. Motivating Students to Move to the Next Level-Maina Mwaura-This session will help you as a leader move your students to become true students of outreach and movement makers.

  7. Assessing your Needs of Your Community-David Jackson-Seeking to learn how to build bridges to your community?  Want to know how to discover the needs and opportunities where you minister?  Then, join us for this session as we share with you tools and strategies for discovering the dynamics in your community and ways to make a lasting impact that will bless the people and exalt our Lord.
  8. The Best Sound in Your Setting: "Audio Basics"-Audio Visual Group- Several Audio/Video Group professionals will be present to share their knowledge and experience, perform live demonstrations, and answer questions. Topics to be covered: 1. Basic sound principals. 2. Sound components and electronics. 3. Microphone types and uses. 4. Proper connections. 5. Operational tips. 6. Emerging technologies.
     

  9. Calling Out the Called from Asian Churches-Robert Kim-We'll address how Asian churches will motivate thier church leaders to step out of the comfort zone and to adjust themselves to the call from God in the church planting fields.  We will cover the "Calling Out the Called" brochure from NAMB.
  10. The Work of Committee Stewardship-Randy Tompkins-The most important element in the stewardship emphasis is planning.  And the most important place to engage a stewardship program is in the Sunday School.  We will explore the answers to five important question relating to stewardship empahsis.

Saturday:  Session C      8:15-9:45 AM

 

  1. Deacons Understanding Servant Leadership in Anxious Times-Ken Jordan-In anxious times, people tend to react more and think less.  Their creative capacities are limited.  Group pressure is elevate. Hope is deflated.  These are precisely the times leaders need to be effective.
  2. Ministerios Biblicos Para una Iglesia del Nuevo Testamento-Rolando Castro-This conference will be in Spanish.  Participants will discover how the New Testament provides a ministries model for church to function in the way God intended.  This is a good opportunity to examine our own congregations and realize if we have been following the "ancient paths."
  3. Servant Outreach: Meeting the Needs; Serving the People-Ellen Udovich-Can a ice-cold can of soda change a life?  Learn how servant evangelism and acts of kindness can open people's hearts to hear the gospel.
  4. Intentionally Evangelistic Church Strategy (IECS)-Thom Thornton-The Intentionally Evangelistic Church Strategy seeks to assist you in developing an individualized process for effective evangelism.  The biblical basis for the IECS can be found in Acts 2:41-47.  This strategy also utilizes research.  rather than being just one person's successful paradigm.  This approach takes insights from over 100 pastors who are effectively and consistently evangelistic.
  5. Building and Sustaining Worship Teams (Part A)-Bill Archer - Learn how to: 1.  Recruit and train Instrumentalist and Singers.  2.  Interview and audition prospective Worship Team members. 3.  Develop Worship Leaders not performers.  4.  Run an effective rehearsal.  5.  Put it all together for Sunday.  6.  Build and maintain healthy relationship.
  6. The Church Leader Navigating an Uncertain Future-David Lee No one knows exactly what faces us in the next ten years, but there are some trends that church leaders dare not ignore.  There are also some strategies that can be put in place now to enable your church to more effectively witness and minister in the future.
  7. Breathe in-Breathe out-WMU & Women's Ministry Working Together: Barbara Matney & Melody Knox-If we want to effectively minister to women in our churches, we must start with a holistic approach.  Bible study and missions education are essential! This conference will explain how to bring them both together in a way that will empower women to grow in the Lord.
  8. Church Polity (A)-Reynold Carr & Herb Rouson- Assisting church in developing Church Constitution and By-Laws.
  9. Mentoring/Coaching-Randy Tompkins-When do you mentor someone and when do you coach someone?  Are these the same things with different titles?  How effective are either one of these approaches?  These and other questions will be addressed in this teaching session.

Saturday Session D     10:00-11:30 Am

 

  1. Deacons Creating a Healthier Church-Ken Jordan-This is not a "how-to" but rather is a "how-to-see" presentation.  Those who use this understanding of organizations see the powerful role mature leaders play in building a healthy congregation.
  2. Caracteristicas de una Iglesia en Mision-Rolando Castro-Participants will be able to discern the difference between a missionary church and a missional church and discover what is in the heart of God about being missional.
  3. After School Tutoring-Ellen Udovich-Come learn the A-B-C's of sharing Christ's love with children and their families through the ministry of after school tutoring and homework help.
  4. Compelling Them In-Thom Thornton-In Luke 14, Jesus tells the story of the Great Banquet and commands us to, "Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house might be filled."  In truth, much of our effort is not very compelling.  Come explore how to make sure the Good News is good news.
  5. Answering God's Call in Your Life-David Lee- Participants will examine God's multi-dimensional call to believers and explore ways to discern and respond to His specific call in their lives.
  6. Church Polity (B)-Reynold Carr & Herb Rouson- Assisting church in developing Policy and Procedure manuals.
  7. Missions Education for Boys-RA's-Tim Arnett-The church and Kingdom growth needs MISSIONS EDUCATION FOR BOYS.  The best strategy for accomplishing this is RA's (Royal Ambassadors).  Come and learn about this exciting ministry for your church's future. http://www.royalambassadors.org
  8. Developing a Healthy You-Tasha Levert- The road to serving others is an action-packed-journey full of adventure, blessing, surprise, and challenge.  Join me as we discuss ways to stay healthy while serving others.  Topics to be explored: 1. passion 2. spiritual discipline 3.self-care 4.rest 5. burn-out.
  9. How to Develop Strong Men in Ministry: "A Men's Ministry to Die for"-Bucas Sterling-Have you been having problems getting your men to participate?  Are you seeing the same guys all the time? Having difficulties getting (or unable to get) men to lead?  This workshop will give you guidance in ways to develop men to do ministry thus creating an avenue to encourage and strengthen other men in your Men's Ministry and congregation. 
  10. Stewardship Environment-Randy Tompkins-Stewardship is not just about money.  Biblical stewardship involves several aspects of the Christian world.  How should church leaders approach these aspects and engage people to consider them as part of their lives?  This is but one of several questions that will be discussed in this class.
